Overview: We are looking for a proactive and skilled individual to join our expanding Finance and Administration team. Reporting directly to the Manager of Project Accounting and Compliance, this role requires flexibility to support multiple project teams and effectively prioritize tasks to meet monthly project deadlines. The Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing project financials, identifying and investigating variances, managing expenses, and ensuring timely billing and collections.
*PLEASE NOTE... THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE TRAVEL BETWEEN PROJECTS*Key Responsibilities:
- Subcontract Management: Track and maintain subcontracts and change orders; process monthly draws via GC Pay.
- Purchase Orders: Create, track, and maintain purchase orders; process related supplier invoices.
- Expense Processing: Review and process general expenses and overhead costs for assigned projects.
- Vendor Relations: Liaise with vendors and subcontractors on billing, payments, and compliance (including WSIB, COI, Stat Dec).
- Budget & Forecasting Support: Work closely with project teams to manage budgets, costs, change orders, and forecasts.
- Cost Variance Analysis: Identify and investigate variances from budget and non-recoverable expenses.
- Accounts Receivable (AR) Collections: Manage collections for assigned projects.
- AR and AP Maintenance: Review and maintain Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) sub-ledgers.
- Monthly Billing: Prepare and distribute monthly billing and draw documentation for assigned projects.
- Contract Compliance: Ensure owner contract requirements are met and accurately reflected in monthly billings.
- Financial Reporting: Develop a detailed understanding of project contracts and provide timely, accurate financial reporting and ad-hoc reports as needed.
- Project Documentation: Ensure complete documentation for projects throughout their lifecycle, including closeout.
- Project Closeout: Finalize contracts and project accounts upon completion.
- Customer Relations: Address customer requests promptly and professionally.
- Ad-hoc Support: Complete additional duties as assigned by Senior Management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent technical training and experience.
- CPA designation required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within engineering, consulting, or construction industries.
- Strong financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work on-site with operations teams.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional attention to accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
